Edinburgh Preview: DOUZE / by Declan Maloney Drummond

What's your show about?

DOUZE follows XNTHONY (that’s me…I’m a pop star!) and my backing singers The Penny Slots, as we campaign around Europe for a place in Eurovision 2018! Eurovision is a huge transnational singing competition and we’ve been applying for a few years now to represent Ireland. We haven’t made it yet…but we’ll never give up! The show presents 9 possible Eurovision songs and explores our own journey to get to the competition as well as the dominant feelings in Europe at the moment in the wake of Brexit. It’s a really exciting blend of performance, musical, cabaret, and live art. Like all good Fringe shows it’s a little bit different.

Have you been to Edinburgh before?

I have been before, but only ever to see other shows so I am thrilled to bring a show of my own. I’m so excited to get get stuck in meeting new and old fans alike!

What's the process of bringing a show to Edinburgh like?

It’s exciting, exhilarating, but also a little bit scary! But that’s a great mix of feelings and it pushes you to try your best!

What do you plan to do with any free time you have during the Fringe?

Of course like most people I can’t wait to see lots of other shows …but if I can find time I adore taking long baths.
